Multiplex tissue image of the month - CAPSL in cervix

News image of the month Januari 2026 CAPSL cervix m b.PNG

In this edition of multiplex image of this month, calcyphosine like (gene: CAPSL) is visualized in ciliated cells of the cervix.

Ciliated cells of the cervix are found in the endocervical epithelium in the inner canal of the cervix, which include folds and glandular structures. At the Human Protein Atlas, the protein expression in endocervical ciliated cells are explored with multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC/IF). Using the cilia panel, made up of five markers for different subcellular structures in ciliated cells, CAPSL - a calcium-binding protein associated with ciliated cells - is localized (green) to all of the annotated subcellular structures of the ciliated cells of cervix epithelium, except for the cilia basal body (red). Additional visualized cell structures include cilia axoneme (white) and ciliated cell nucleus (magenta).

The spatial expression data is supported by single-cell RNA sequencing data for CAPSL available in the Single Cell resource showing enriched group specificity in ciliated cells, as well as enhanced expression within the various ciliated cell types and other cell types associated with motile cilia.
