Multiplex tissue image of the month - TMEM213 in salivary gland
Multiplex tissue image of the month - TMEM213 in salivary glandUsing multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC/IF), the spatial expression pattern of transmembrane protein 213 (gene: TMEM213) is displayed in ductal structures of the salivary gland. The mIHC/IF-based exploration of protein expression in the salivary gland makes is possible to uncover how the proteins are distributed in the different structural components of the tissue, including saliva-producing acini and excretory ducts. For TMEM213, staining (green) is localized to the apical part of the membrane of large ducts (red). Other visualized structures include small ducts (magenta) and serous acini (cyan). In addition, the spatial expression data from salivary gland is supported by the single-cell RNA sequencing data for TMEM213 available in the Single Cell resource at the Human Protein Atlas showing enhanced expression in salivary gland duct cells.
