We are proud to announce that the Human Protein Atlas is one of the newly appointed Global Core Biodata Resources (GCBR) selected by the Global Biodata Coalition (GBC).

GBC was established by research funders to facilitate the development of sustainable funding strategies and to coordinate and share approaches for efficient management and growth of biodata resources. These resources are crucial to most biomedical and life science research. The mission of GBC is to ensure the public availability and long-term access for the selected GBCRs.

All core resources selected by GCBRs are of fundamental importance to the life sciences community and needs to be open access, comprehensive and extensively used. In addition, they have been selected for being of high scientific quality, providing high-standard services and to be authorities in their respective field. The core resources have been selected by a panel of more than 50 independent expert reviewers with assessment criteria including scientific focus, the size and reach of the user communities, quality of service, governance and impact on global research.

Currently there are 52 GCBRs including Ensembl, Uniprot, GeneOntology, DDBJ, Reactome, STRING and now also the Human Protein Atlas, the first GBC core resource with a base in Sweden.
