Golgi apparatus

The Golgi apparatus consists of several stacks of membrane-bound cisternae, which can be divided into cis-, medial- and trans-Golgi. It plays a crucial role in the intracellular transport of proteins and membranes to other organelles as well as in the transport of material that is secreted to the outside of the cell.

Immunofluorescent staining

The Golgi apparatus is located next to the nucleus. Its morphology can vary between cell lines. Often it is more spherically shaped and centered around the centrosome, whereas it encircles the whole nucleus in other cell lines.
