Ankyrin 1 RNA levels are high in skeletal muscle, moderate in heart tissue, and lower in other human organs. In the mouse brain, transcriptomic data suggest a general abundance across all regions, with higher expression in areas of midbrain and hindbrain.
Moderate-strong intensity somato-dendritic immunostaining is noticed in sparse neurons throughout the neocortex, as well as in high number of neurons in the medial septum, VDB, ventral pallidum, globus pallidus, reticular and pregeniculate thalamic nuceli, periventricular hypothalamic region, substantia nigra, cerebellar Purkinje-cells and multiple pontine/medullar nuclei.
In addition, sparse axonal stainining and weak diffuse/synaptic immunostainig pattern is noticed throughout the entire brain gray matter.
