Leptin receptor RNA is predominantly seen in liver, endometrium, lung and several more human tissues, with brain being one of those with lowest expression. In the mouse CNS, somatodendritic- and axonal immunostaining is noticed in the olfactory bulb's external plexiform layer. Somatodendritic- axonal- and weak to moderate-intensity diffuse staining of synaptic fields is noticed in multiple but distinct brain regions throughout the brain, namely in the lateral septum, hypothalamic nuclei, globus pallidus, entorhinal cortex, some amygdala nuclei, hippocampus, posterior thalamic nuclei, sparse neurons in the neocortex, (layers IV-V), substantia nigra, some regions in the pons and medulla, while intense signal has also been detected in the choroid plexus. These protein distribution data fit well with available information on RNA expression from ISH and RNA-SEQ databases.
