A complex staining. A neuronal cytoplasmic cell body- AND diffuse-synaptic immunostaining patterns are noticed in the caudate putamen, lateral septum, some thalamic nuclei and in the cerebellar Purkinje cells (their dendrites are also immunoreactive in the cerebellar molecular layer).
Moderate-strong diffuse-synaptic immunoreactivity (without cell bodies) is noticed in the ventral pallidum, globus pallidus, some thalamic nuclei, hippocampus, piriform cortex and some other neocortical areas. The synaptic staining is particularly strong in the substantia nigra and in the hippocampal mossy fibers.
The glomerular layer of the accessory olfactory bulb and the olfactory tubercule exhibit particualry strong staining.
