Movie of the month: Deciphering the complexity of signaling in the brain - the story of GPR151

The exploration of the human proteome has revealed many uncharacterized proteins with very interesting distributions in tissues and cells. Among them are many receptor proteins with unknown functions and predominant expression in the brain, including the orphan receptor GPR151.

This movie, created for the Human Protein Atlas by Dr Csaba Adori (Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm) uses light sheet microscopy to show the specific location of this G protein-coupled receptor in the mouse brain. Dr. Jan Mulder (Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm) explains how our knowledge of brain circuits and connections together with this 3D data can be used to create new insights in possible roles of this receptor in the neuronal networks involved in anxiety, depression and addiction.
